Lt. Cdr. (Hon) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hazmi Mohd Rusli is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Syariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He is also a visiting professor at the School of Law, Far Eastern Federal University, Vladivostok, Russia (2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018), a visiting lecturer at the Department of International Relations, National University of Timor-Lorosa’e, Dili, Timor-Leste, and a visiting professor at the Faculty of Law, Brawijaya University, Indonesia. He was called to the Malaysian BAR in 2007, and he is also a non-practising Syarie Counsel for the Federal Territories of Malaysia. Besides his current position at USIM, he is also attached as a research associate in a number of institutions i.e. Institute of Oceanography and Environment, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), University of Wollongong, Australia and the Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), New Delhi, India. He has been invited as keynote and plenary speakers in conferences all over the world including the United States of America (USA), Indonesia, Russia, Malaysia and the Philippines. He has written a number of articles published in world-leading journals and has been interviewed by a number of renowned international and local media. He was also recently appointed as a Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Malaysian Navy Volunteer Reserve Team. His area of interest is Law of the Sea and Public International Law.
